NHS Wakefield is procuring a community MSK service to support its longer term plans for MSK services across the District. The future vision for MSK services in Wakefield includes:

Good outcomes for patients and good patient experience
Integrated services
Clear, well managed patient flows and clinical pathways
Accurate and early diagnosis
Embedding supported self-care and physical activity
Reducing duplication
Care closer to home
Accurate and timely data to support service development

The Community MSK service will be part of this longer term vision, providing a community based service with access to community consultant-led orthopaedics - preferably within the same locations.

The service will provide comprehensive, evidence based MSK services for the triage, assessment and treatment of muscle ligament and non-operative orthopaedic and rheumatology conditions. This will include:

Provisions of new and follow-up appointments
Full assessment and physical examination as clinically appropriate
Diagnosis and treatment where applicable by a specialist doctor or a specialist physiotherapist
Injection treatments
Referral to other services as appropriate

The provider of this service will ensure:

Efficient access and management of new and follow-up appointments
A commitment to developing innovative pathways and best practice MSK services within a community setting
Delivery of local and national waiting time targets
Consistently high standards of service provision and delivery
A high quality service demonstrated through patient feedback
