The purpose of the requirement is to:
- Identify what participation means in the youth justice context
- Identify examples of good participatory practice (including co-creation with children) and meaningful engagement with children
- Determine what methods and techniques are currently being used in relation to participation and co-creation with children
- Develop resources to increase children's involvement in processes and decisions which affect them, which are bespoke to different elements of the youth justice system
- Identify what lessons can be learned and disseminated to other YOTs
