description

The Ministry of Defence has a requirement for the design, supply, and delivery to the Nuclear Department at HMS Sultan, of experimental apparatus which can be used to educate students in the fundamental principles of internal laminar and turbulent flows. Delivery should be against the technical specification defined in the Statement of Requirement.

The requirement is for a flow channel made of optically transparent material such that water flowing within the channel can be characterised using the experimental techniques of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF), Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and Shadow Bubble Sizing. The channel should have 50 mm PN65 ASA 150 stainless steel flange connections at the top and bottom to allow for connection to the water supply and outlet pipe work. The water inlet to the channel will normally be at the bottom and the outlet at the top. The channel should be mounted in an assembly which includes a platform (in the plane normal to the direction of flow) which can be located at various vertical positions with respect to the channel. The channel should also be able to rotate around the axis parallel to the direction of flow 00 – 360o without requiring the outlet and inlet connections to be broken. The whole assembly (including the mounted channel and platform) should be mounted in a stand which allows the assembly and channel to be located in fixed positions ranging between 0o and 90o from the vertical axis.

Full details of the requirements for the Channel and Supporting Assembly are included in the tender documents.

Please note it is MOD policy to make payment via Purchase to Payment (P2P).
