description

The UK electric vehicle (EV) market is growing at pace. In January 2021, 6,260 new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 6,124 new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) were registered in the UK, representing a 54% and 28% increase in sales relative to the same month the previous year. There are now more than 500,000 plug-in vehicles on the road as of the end of April 2021 and we expect demand to continue to grow rapidly in response to the Government's announcement to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030, with all vehicles being required to have a significant zero emissions capability (e.g. plug-in and full hybrids) from 2030 and be 100% zero emissions from 2035. We are procuring this research to fill evidence gaps around attitudes and behaviour of current EV drivers. We will use this evidence as a benchmark to measure and isolate the impact of the regulations through a 5-year impact evaluation.
