description

A new Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching and Engagement Centre (ISTEC) will contain state-of-the-art laboratories for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. It will also support the University's schools, colleges and community outreach activities, while providing important facilities for industry and a platform for wider collaboration.

The centre, which is being established at the University's Clifton campus, will be new build and enabling works are anticipated to commence Easter 2016 with construction following on to enable Practical Completion to be achieved in Summer 2017.

The Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching & Engagement Centre project will be split into Lots which will be tendered on a staggered basis as and when documentation becomes available, through the Intend system. New Contract Notices will be issued for Lot/s when tendered. This Contract notice covers the following Lot 5 Composite steel pre-cast concrete decking

WORK INCLUDES (but is not limited to):

Primary Works

composite pre-cast concrete floor slabs, from first floor level, and roof (noted below) concreted by concrete contractor
composite roof slabs, designed to support plant and snow loadings.
framing to lift shafts (oversized to allow for range of lift installations), services shafts and stair-towers, including structural bracing to provide lateral stability to the building – to be noted if required
local strengthening of columns to allow omission of bracing, where required
allow for any movement joint requirements.
shelf angle connections to provide bearing on steel for composite decking, including movement joints
decking and staircases installed as work progresses.

Secondary Works

trimming and cantilevered edge structures to floor voids and to upper levels
trimming and framing to lift shafts
trimming to apertures for services risers and roof penetrations, with upstand edge protection at roof level and fixed reinforcement mesh temporary infill across all floor openings, to prevent falls
trimmed openings for staircases, including temporary perimeter safety barriers
Any necessary supplementary steel or precast members in providing a full composite frame
