description

The EPSRC seeks to commission a public dialogue activity to explore public views on Quantum Technologies and the devices and applications which may be generated through research activities currently taking place in the National Quantum Technologies Programme. The main aim is therefore to identify public values, priorities, dilemmas and preferences around current and future research. The public dialogue will have the potential to inform the direction of the research as it takes place (rather than retrospectively as tends to be the case), and in particular to inform and shape research priorities in the next phase of the National Quantum Technology Programme, as well as the current phase.

The main reasons for this public dialogue are-

  • to explore public perceptions of Quantum Technologies. (Including exploring public aspirations, values, dilemmas, priorities and concerns).
  • to engage and inform the public about Quantum Technology and any devices which will emerge from the Quantum Technologies National Programme and the wider community.
  • to create a dialogue between experts, researchers and the public which will inform the Quantum Technology community.
  • to gather public experience and opinion from a broad range of the public with diverse backgrounds (avoiding built in bias) on a full range of quantum technology issues.
  • to seek public opinion on applications and uses of quantum devices and technology to identify new and interesting directions and purposes.
  • to analyse the results of the public dialogue in a timely manner producing a report which identifies any recommendations.
  • to use the results of the dialogue to inform research and innovation priorities in the next phase of the Quantum Technology National Programme.
