The overarching aim of this research is to produce a prevalence rate of individuals in receipt of any taxable, non-PAYE income where the activities are facilitated by an intermediary, and to understand the detailed characteristics of individuals generating income in this way.
The objectives of this research are:
| i. | To establish a prevalence rate of individuals in the UK population in receipt of taxable, non-PAYE income where the activities and payment are facilitated by an intermediary; |
| ii. | To establish a prevalence rate of individuals in the following subgroups: |
| a. | Individuals providing services through online platforms; |
| b. | Individuals trading through online marketplaces; |
| c. | Individuals sharing tangible assets using online and offline platforms, including those renting property as a UK-based landlord. |
| iii. | To understand the characteristics and experiences of individuals in receipt of this form of income, including income levels, income regularity, reliance on cashflow, expense levels and demographic characteristics. |
