A52/96.80 Erewash Abutment Concrete Testing

Scope of works

1. Detailed Visual and Delamination Testing All exposed concrete on the west abutment.

2. Covermeter Survey Readings shall be taken on the northern half of the face of the west abutment on a 500 mm by 500 mm grid. Starting 100 mm from the external edges of the test panel.

3. Half-Cell Potential Testing Readings shall be taken on the northern half of the face of the west abutment on a 500 mm by 500 mm grid. Starting 100 mm from the external edges of the test panel. If values at the edge of the test panel are found to be more negative than -250 mV then the test panel shall be extended until values less negative than -250 mV are found. The initial test panel will cover an area of approximately 75m².

4. Electrical Resistivity Testing 2 no. resistivity tests to be carried out per 2 m of abutment length tested. Locations to be agreed on site.

5. Chloride Content Testing 4 no. locations to be agreed on site within west abutment. Each location will require dust samples to be taken to a depth of 100 mm at 25 mm intervals.

6. Carbonation Testing Carbonation depth shall be assessed using a solution of phenolphthalein indicator that appears pink in contact with alkaline concrete with pH values in excess of 9 and colourless at lower levels of pH in accordance with BS EN 14630, Determination of carbonation depth in hardened concrete by the phenolphthalein method. Carbonation depths shall be tested in 2 no. locations to be agreed on site.

7. Cement Content Testing 1 no. test undertaken in accordance with Section 6
