description

Highways England is looking to complete the provision of specialist feasibility, design and supervision on site for heat strengthening repairs to three bridges that were subject to impact by high sided vehicles. Highways England is also in the process of establishing a safe way of destressing the ground anchors at A66, Greta Bridge to enable the load cells at each anchor to be replaced. A66 Greta Ground Anchors and the Heat Strengthening works form Task A of this task.

The technique of reheating existing bridge deck beams allows for the avoidance of expensive and disruptive propping works that may be needed for replacement of the whole beam or a section of it. The technique is supported by Safety Engineering and Standards (SES), in conjunction with an assessment of capacity that will be needed to determine any detrimental effects left by the damage and heating treatment technique in its temporary weakened state.
