description

As part of 'Connecting the Country - Planning for the Long Term" strategy, Highways England has stated it will explore a range of options to make construction work even safer and more efficient, including opportunities for using drones to help inspect and manage our assets and to support incident management. Drones are starting to be used extensively across the network, so Highways England needs to have a joined-up approach to safely manage and operate all drone activities within the business. We have published our first drone policy and established a cross directorate drone governance/working group to manage the growing drone usage. Our drone policy is just the starting point; we now need to further develop our requirements to safely facilitate our use of drones to support design, construction, operation and maintenance (asset management/ traffic management/incident management and media operations) activities across our network.
