description

Develop a small size and low cost sensor system to enable rapid in-field inspection of ceramic armour providing an inexpensive solution with rapid pass/fail inspection capability. The programme of work will fall as follows:

Stage 1: Further lab measurements

  1. Shockwave vs: impact location, impact angle
  2. Analysis of data to understand optimal sensor location and required number of sensors
  3. Production of technical note containing results and design recommendations Stage 2: Demonstration system
  4. Detailed design of demonstrator system
  5. Build, assembly and test of a demonstration system
  6. Production of final report and recommendations for next steps

Work is to be undertaken in accordance with the SBRI application 60924-446197 submitted and held by Innovate UK for the Non-Destructive Evaluation programme.

Key Deliverables are:

  1. Technical report of results and design recommendations (06/02/2016)
  2. Test of proposed equipment with resulting 4 off demonstrators (26/04/2016)
  3. Final Report of Phase 1 activities (26/04/2016)
