At Surrey County Council we’re leading the local government sector by building on the work of the Government Digital Service. In order to provide flexible, responsive and efficient services for the residents of Surrey, the council’s Digital Platform strategy is focussed on joining-up common; processes, data and technology across our services. This will be achieved by using a ‘digital by default’ approach, technology supporting open-standards, focussing on the reuse of data, and agile delivery principles.

An enhanced understanding of customer information, improving customer experience and the use of service delivery and customer data across all the council services are important in the delivery of Surrey County Council’s Digital approach. As such the development of a ‘Customer Relationship’ Platform has been initiated as a digital exemplar project and a fundamental building block of the council’s vision for service improvement.

The project seeks to ensure flexibility of business and systems architecture within Surrey County Council, allowing for on-going service improvement and agility. To this end the system design seeks to separate the components traditionally found in a ‘Customer Relationship Management’ System.
