description

Highways England is looking to set up a contract for provision of specialist feasibility, design and supervision on site for heat strengthening repairs to three bridges that were subject to impact by high sided vehicles.

The technique of reheating existing bridge deck beams allows for the avoidance of expensive and disruptive propping works that may be needed for replacement of the whole beam or a section of it. The technique is supported by Safety Engineering and Standards (SES), in conjunction with an assessment of capacity that will be needed to determine any detrimental effects left by the damage and heating treatment technique.
