description

Developing our leaders is critical to the success of Historic England. We have a leadership and management training programme in place that is targeted at aspiring to senior managers.

This tender focuses on developing our Senior Leaders in the organisation. This includes the Executive Team, comprising 8 members including the Chief Executive to whom all other members report and the Group Leadership Teams which comprise of an Executive Director and their Direct Reports. We have 6 Group Leadership teams with about 30 people in addition to the 8 Executive Team members. 2 Executive Team members job share working 3 days each.

The Executive Team's development outlined here is a continuation of work that took place from 2021 to 2023.

The focus of the Executive Team's leadership development programme 24/25 and 25/26 is self-awareness, effective collaboration, deepening the ability to give feedback and challenge each other while maintaining good working relationships. It will also include some facilitated strategic conversations. The focus might change in response to external and internal drivers over the course of the programme.

The focus of the Group Leadership development is self-awareness, effective collaboration, and developing a shared language to harness differences and strengths.

Objectives

Historic England would like to achieve the following through delivery of this development programme:

  • oAll Group Leadership Team members to have increased self-awareness about their personal preferences, their behaviours and the impact they might have on others
  • oAn understanding of how different people are and how to adapt one's own communication to the preferences of others when needed or wanted
  • oIncrease team effectiveness of all Group Leadership teams including the Executive Team
  • oEnable the Executive Team to step back from day-to-day operational business, take stock of strategic changes underway, planned and anticipated, and consider how the Executive Team can best optimise the contribution it makes to steering the organisation towards future success
