Direct Measurement of Landfill Emissions Using the Tracer Gas Dispersion Method

The project aims to:

• inform the validation of the current methane inventory model by determining the collection efficiencies at a sample of landfills
• quantify methane emissions from a sample of landfills and to understand how these vary under different conditions
• quantify how large the variation in emissions actual is
• understand the main factors that influence variability in methane emissions at different landfills
• demonstrate and refine the tracer gas dispersion method for quantifying landfill methane emissions
• demonstrate that the Tracer Gas Dispersion method would be a viable approach for any wider survey of landfills to determine methane emissions of the landfill population or sub-sets of the whole population.
