description
This work will seek to ensure social and physical community infrastructure is planned and delivered for within new communities and larger urban extensions so that new communities are resilient and self-supporting with access to appropriate services that support and enrich the lives of the residents.
This will enable communities to:
- oBuild community cohesion, generate social capital and support the transition of new residents into the community.
- oEncourage the community to become self-supporting, placing less demand on services particularly during formative years of the community.
- oExplore and pull-down external funding sources and opportunities that will benefit the community.
- oEnsure they are well-served with the right services delivered in the right place at the right time.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council currently supports existing and emerging communities around three new settlements within the district. The pressure on services is significantly increased due to lack of a well-established social capital / community infrastructure.
There are currently three new settlements across Stratford-on-Avon District; Upper Lighthorne, Meon Vale and Long Marston Airfield Garden Village, with input from council officers, facilitating local stakeholder support partnerships to aid community cohesion and support community led aspirations.
A joint new Local Plan for Stratford-on-Avon District and Warwick District for the period to 2050 is being prepared by the Local Plan teams. Both authorities have significant ambitions for future delivery of district housing with the need to identify land across South Warwickshire within the Local Plan (2030-2050).
