description
Carbapenemase producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) pose a serious threat to healthcare in the UK and Worldwide. As a part of a PHE Level 3 response to the CPE threat, we therefore implemented an enhanced surveillance programme with data collection through an electronic online system (ERS) at the point of referral for confirmation of carbapenemase production. This will improve the epidemiological understanding of risk factors that predispose to infection / colonisation and transmission, so that effective control measures can be instituted.
