description

Over 1,400 lane km of concrete pavement asset is managed by its regional teams which excludes the concrete pavement within part of its network managed by DBFO's. This asset is now aging with significant sections at or beyond their intended service life.

Highways England intends to invest in the renewal and repair of its concrete road network within a national programme extending over several Roads Investment Strategy (RIS) periods and is leading with an initial investment of approximately £400m in the RIS 2 period (2020-2025).

The company has never previously undertaken a programme of work with this scope and must address the significant challenges it presents. To manage these challenges successfully Highways England believes that it must develop a national level of programme management whilst retaining accountability for prioritisation of regional needs
