THE PROVISION OF A BARNSLEY LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME FOR THE COUNCIL

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (the Council) is seeking to commission a Leadership Programme linked to our vision, values and Future Council characteristics. The programme will ensure that our leaders are able to drive forward and manage the change needed to become a sustainable Future Council and will help us to achieve our priorities.

We are looking for a provider who can partner with us to deliver a leadership programme which will enable us to make a step change in moving the culture of our organisation significantly towards our Future Council. We would like to hear from providers who will challenge our thinking and focus us externally so that we naturally look to find cutting edge, leading practice from wherever we can find it and transfer it here.

We have recently reshaped our organisation into business units and we recognise that our leaders will need significantly different skills if they are to deliver our priorities successfully in the future - running a business unit on a sound commercial and/or financial footing is fundamentally different to running a service and we need to equip our leaders with the ability to do that well. Our aspiration is to be amongst the very best Councils and we see this programme as being crucial in our ability to achieve that, so the stakes are high.

We want and need our leaders to be able to understand and adapt to a complex and rapidly changing local government environment - one that is significantly different.
