description

Fencing around three sides of Coed Cwm Coel, a 11.2 ha broadleaf woodland just over 6 miles to the west of Rhayader (Grid ref SN901640).This work is part of the Celtic Rainforest LIFE project, an EU LIFE-funded project focussed on improving the condition of woodland in five SACs across Wales. Work will include eradication of Rhododendron ponticum and other invasive plant species, implementing woodland grazing projects and undertaking woodland management. The project is led by the Eryri National Park Authority, with RSPB Cymru and Woodland Trust as delivery partners. In the Elan valley we will be introducing cattle grazing in several areas, including Cwm Coel. New fencing is needed across 3 sides of the site. At the top a small amount of fence repair is needed, including installing 2 new gate posts and re-hanging a gate. There is also a small quantity of old fencing that was around 2 old exclosures that needs to be removed (see exclosures in purple on map below). A waste-carrier licence will be required for disposal of scrap fence.Work should be completed by the end of February 2024.
