GWR Engine Shed Conversion to Museum Display Space - Wales to the World - Vale of Rheidol Railway

The Vale of Rheidol Railway having built the necessary infrastructure to vacate the 1938 Great Western Railway Engine Shed is now looking to convert the building for use as a sustainable museum/display space that can also be used as an event space.The contract will be offered as a Design and Build to be designed in conjunction with the Railway to its own specific requirements.The building is 210’-0” long internal between gable ends and comprises of 21 bays of 10’-0” centres using 10” x 5” x approx. 16’ RSJ for Stanchions with a riveted construction roof structure from 3” steel equal angle, the walls are 9” solid brick construction between each stanchion. Gable ends are from 8” x 6” RSJ construction framework with 9” solid brickwork pillars either side of main doors and over door which supports the ends of the 7” x 3” timber purlins. There are 32 windows 5’ wide by 8’ high openings in brickwork as well as 4 main sets of timber double doors each set measuring 13’6” high x 14’8” wide and 5 main personnel doors.The Work includes the following;Stabilising building and structure with remedial work to steel stanchions,Cleaning internal structure,Sealing of brickwork and Painting of steelwork,Removal and partial rebuild of brick gable ends,Stabilisation/replacement of Gable Doors steel framework,Screed floor and installation of woodblock flooring,Supply and installation of Windows and full height glazing,Supply and fit new doors and windows,Supply and installation of External Wall Insulation System,Supply and installation of insulation and cladding of ceiling,Supply an fit Velux windows on lantern,Electrical ServicesSupply and install external paving and fencing.
