The University of Bristol Faculty of Health Sciences runs an Academy based system made up of 7 NHS Academies and 3 virtual academies (University of Bristol Departments, Primary care and Avon and Wiltshire Partnership). The Great Western Hospital, Swindon, is one of the 7 academies that teach medical students. As part of their MBChB degree, the medical students must complete a Choice project, and they are given an opportunity to choose which Academy they wish to attend to undertake their placement and project.
