Introduction and Context

The North Wales Dark Skies partnership (Prosiect Nos) has been working on a substantial programme to educate communities on light pollution and has successfully been completing a number of retrofitting projects in north Wales.

Building on the success of this and the nature of the issue of light pollution, the Designated Landscapes family of all 8 Welsh protected landscapes (Eryri, Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks and the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Ynys Môn, Pen Llŷn, Gŵyr, Wye and Clwydian Range Dee Valley) have secured funding for an ‘All Wales’ project aiming to reduce light pollution in these areas and to lessen/remove the negative impacts for biodiversity, climate, public health and for the protection of Dark Skies.

The two National Parks Eryri and Brecon are Dark Sky Reserves, with each of the other areas also holding ambitions to become Dark Sky designated in the near future.

This tender specification is for phase 1 & 2 of associated works. Phase 2 will be commissioned on the successful completion of phase 1.

Aims of the Project

We are looking to procure the services of a specialist lighting engineer/design company to work with us to deliver an ambitious light retrofitting project in all 8 areas. We will award a contractor to work with us to reduce/remove light pollution in sensitive areas.
