description
The Contract is for the provision of an extension of the existing Derry City Cemetery by construction of approximately an additional 950 burial plots. The development site at Southway Wood, (townland Ballymagowan) is sloped and is currently a mix of semi mature trees and scrub growth. The site is bounded on the northeast side by the existing City Cemetery (Lone Moor Road, BT48 2LA) and is bounded on the northwest by the existing gravel playing field and Kildrum Gardens Community Centre. The development site is approximately rectangular in footprint having an area of 0.915 hectares. The development site will be an extension of the existing cemetery with access to the proposed new burial plots from only the existing cemetery by an extension of the current internal cemetery roadway. The Construction contract will involve site clearance and preparation to facilitate an earthworks exercise to develop the necessary finalised gradients and profiles for the burial plot layout. This is also require construction of sections of modular reinforced block retaining wall. The site will be served by construction of a new bitmac access road linked to the existing internal cemetery roadway. The Contract will require construction of pedestrian footways, steps, handrailing, kerbing, drainage and installation of reinforced concrete plinths for locating head stones. The site will be completed with new perimeter fencing and walls with internal landscaping features and reinstatement. The anticipated contract programme is 9 months.
