description

The Body Donation Programme takes place at the University of Leicester Medical School. Members of the public (referred to as ‘bequests’ in this document), bequeath their bodies for anatomical examination, and are a valuable teaching source for teaching the structure and function of the human body to medical students, and other healthcare professionals. The Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulates the use of human bodies within the legal framework set out in the Human Tissue Act (2004). The University of Leicester is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority. The successful tenderer will be required to transport bequests who have donated their bodies for anatomical examination to the University of Leicester and to arrange and carry out subsequent cremations which take place in late June/early July each year for up to 50 bequests.
