description

Simultaneous Interpreting (SI) is a major strength of the Newcastle T&I programme, and one of the reasons students choose Newcastle over other programmes in the UK and USA. Our network of highly skilled conference interpreters in China (those who are now using the professional skills developed in the programme) are a major asset to us in terms of profile and recruitment. Maintaining market-leading provision in this area is crucial to the continued success of the T&I programme.

SI is technologically dependent, and it is important that our students have access to industry-standard interpreting equipment. When the current SI Training Lab was built in 2010, the installation of the Televic system meant that our students were using the system which was standard at the time for the EU, UN and major conference facilities in China. 7 years on, that industry standard has moved on with new software and hardware systems becoming the norm. Investing in a new system now will ensure that our programme has the equipment to remain a global leader in SI training.

The scope of this requirement is for the supply and installation of translation and interpreting equipment.
