description
In former years, prior to Covid, the council staged a popular traditional firework display behind the town hall. However, due to limited space and in response to the climate emergency, we are now looking to re-imagine Guy Fawkes night, with a spectacular show, but avoiding the use of loud fireworks.
We are now looking to commission an organisation to create and deliver a striking and memorable Guy Fawkes Show (approx. 20-25 minutes) mapped and projected onto the Waltham Forest Town Hall, and incorporating the multi-function fountain in Fellowship Square. The show theme should be "A Year In Waltham Forest" celebrating our community, achievements, borough and people. This can be film, images, designs, and places around Waltham Forest. The show must culminate in a light show projection, think lasers, search lights and pyrotechnics (but not traditions fireworks) (from the roof).
This commission includes production of The Guy Fawkes Show, and delivery two times per evening, over three nights, on Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November (ie 6 shows in total).
Our key objectives are:
- Bring together our community to share and enjoy a Guy Fawkes night experience, that will be remembered for a long time.
- To establish the refurbished Town Hall and Fellowship Square as a destination centre for culture and community in the Borough, with an offer bringing excitement and extravagance of Guy Fawkes (without the noise and pollution of fireworks) with minimal disruption to the neighbourhood and environment.
- To create a hopeful, inclusive and safe experience which has a unifying message for residents.
The maximum budget for this commission is £80,000. This must cover:
- Delivery of overarching design concept for the Waltham Forest Guy Fawkes Show Commission
- Specific CGI projection mapping design for the site (it is expected this will require several site visits, consultation with building managers, council officers etc)
- Sound, pyrotechnics, choreography of the fountain
- Technical delivery for 2 shows each night for three nights
- Security of any technical equipment between shows
- Technical specification and safety spec for installation of all aspects of design and delivery of the Guy Fawkes Show, and related derig. (Please note Waltham Forest Council will be responsible for overall event management to include site control, crowd management, ticketing and related matters)
- Management of installation and de-install.
