description

The healthcare sector in Wales produces approximately 7,200 tonnes of food waste each year at a cost of around £13.7 million.

The objectives of this work are to:

  • Workstream A: Onsite Delivery: Develop a replicable model for hospitals to achieve waste prevention through the delivery of a "live" learning and mentoring cluster project with the healthcare sector in Wales. This should pilot each stage of the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) /WRAP screen cast guidance (available at the following link: http://www.wrap.org.uk/content/preventing-waste-healthcare-sector) and assist the identified hospitals and/ or health boards to implement food waste prevention through the development and delivery of an Action Plan which realises savings within the timescale of the project.
  • Workstream B: Supply Chain: Work with a major food supplier into the healthcare sector in Wales to identify and pilot mechanisms to deliver reductions in food waste and optimise packaging over the course of the project.

Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
