description

FSA currently uses hospital admission data to show trends for food allergies, coeliac disease and food intolerance. However, using this as the sole measure is not appropriate in all instances and there are issues with the suitability of the current data used.

To improve our estimates and understanding of the circumstances surrounding adverse events, the FSA has proposed a suite of new measures including clinical data associated with primary care and hospital admissions for food hypersensitivities and food allergies respectively (for ease of use we have used the term food hypersensitivities to cover food allergy, food intolerance and coeliac disease).
