Project Objectives -
To carry out opening up & survey works to establish the scope and quantum for the future Southport Pier Refurbishment Works.
Scope
The works encompass the selection of 4No sections of Pier that best represent the differing levels of deterioration (seaward, landside, lakeside).
⬢ The design, supply and installation of temporary works.
⬢ The taking up of existing timber decking and bearers.
⬢ Allow safe access for surveys on the condition of the structural elements of the pier to take place.
⬢ Ascertain the extent of works that may be required in total.
⬢ Take responsibility for the timely completion of surveys.
⬢ Take responsibility for instructing the extent and scope of surveys.
Particular consideration will be required to Surveys to be sufficiently intrusive and extensive to inform:
⬢ Extent of repairs required to cast iron columns (to allow a lifespan of 60 years).
⬢ Extent of repairs required to all cast iron / steel section above & below decking.
⬢ Structural requirements / amendments required to support the weight of a passenger train.
⬢ Structural requirements / amendments required to remove / replace timber noggins & metal packers on pillars (& any other 'temporary' structural fixes).
⬢ Repairs / replacement of hidden flanges.
⬢ Extent of radius work correction required to edges of steel.
