Arnside Pier Railing Specification
Arnside Parish Council is seeking quotes for the removal and replacement of railings of its historic pier.
The old railings have corroded and will become unsafe if not replaced, Health and Safety legislation has been changed and new railings will need to comply.
The Council would therefore like a 3 rail system for improved safety in a style in keeping with the heritage of the location but offering value for money. As they are in an exposed marine environment they must also be constructed or finished in a suitable way for resistance to corrosion.
The Council would prefer to receive quotes for the entire job (supply, removal of old railings and installation of the new railings) to ensure that overall responsibility for completing the works lie with one company to avoid errors.
The Council is aware that this will be a costly operation and intends to apply for funding, however it may be that the Council can only afford partial replacement this financial year and will seek to undertake the rest in the following year if possible. The Council would therefore like to receive two separate quotes. One for the cross part at the end of the pier (the most urgently in need of replacement) and the second quote for the long sides of the pier (up to where it widens out)
The Council is aware that it may prove cheaper to have the entire works carried out in one go so it would be helpful if you could include in your email how much the total could be reduced by if the Council received sufficient funding.
The Council would also like to know whether you would be carrying out a site visit and or survey before carrying out the works and when you would be able to begin work if you were awarded the contract.
The pier is constructed of stone and is thought to be rubble in-filled. Railings are currently set directly into the stone, in some places there is also tarmac around the base. There is a domestic electrical power source situated at the end of the pier. A plan and photographs are attached.
