description

The Watchtree site was established after the FMD outbreak in 2001, and has vast amounts of animal carcases buried on site, in controlled conditions which will take decades to decompose.

Following extensive survey work on this site there is a now a requirement for specialist surveys to be carried out at four other similar sites.

The objectives are to review the current monitoring regime to give Defra reassurance that the safe operation of the sites are being maintained and also provide evidence that the current operations to manage waste emissions from the buried animal carcases are appropriate.
