description

Northumberland County Council is looking to appoint a contractor to undertake pier painting and flood damge painting repairs to Ovingham Bridge. Ovingham Bridge carries the C255 road spanning across the River Tyne. It is an 8 span continuous half-through lattice u-frame truss supported off cast iron pier heads, and wrought iron pier legs. The bridge is weight restricted to 3T, enforced by 6’6” width restrictors on the north and south approach roads onto the bridge.

The bridge superstructure was refurbished in 2014-15, with the existing deck and cross girders renewed with a SPS deck plate system and Tee shaped cross girders. The bridge superstructure was also blasted and painted.

The current phase of works involves removal of the existing lead based paint from the pier legs and the application of the new proposed paint system. The work also encompasses the associated repair/defect correction work to the bridge superstructure following December 2015 floods.
