description

Surrey County Council is seeking to develop a commercial partnership arrangement for Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) Services in order that the partnership can exploit its experience, reputation and resources and bid jointly for new opportunities in the broad area of providing transport services, initially in Surrey.

Circa 200,000 patient transport journeys take place per year, to and from 5 Acute Hospitals, and a wide range of other healthcare locations, primarily in the Surrey area.

NEPT is funded by the NHS and includes a range of medical needs from patients needing a stretcher to patients who can walk with assistance.

NEPT is free at the point of use for people who meet certain medical criteria which would prevent them from getting to their appointments without this assistance.

The current services cover all of Surrey, North East Hampshire and Farnham and Hounslow, divided into the following NHS CCG regions:

North West Surrey CCG Guildford & Waverley CCG Surrey Downs CCG East Surrey CCG

Surrey Heath CCG North East Hampshire and Farnham CCG

NEPT Services for Surrey, North East Hampshire and Farnham and Hounslow are currently provided by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). This contract has been in place for three years and costs approximately £6.5m each year.
