description
Through implementation of the national strategy, Lambeth is looking to establish a community that accepts and understands autism and which has an infrastructure that provides opportunities for adults with Autism/ Asperger Syndrome to live fulfilling and rewarding lives. People with autism and their family/carers, should be helped to “live well” with the condition regardless of the level of need, severity of the disorder or where they receive their generic health or social care services.
The service will aim to meet 4 main outcome areas:
Information Development
- Ensure people with Autism/Asperger Syndrome and their carers have high quality information on ASD pre and post diagnosis.
Facilitate Peer Support
- Identify and develop opportunities for peer support and shared social activities for people on the autism spectrum and also their Carer’s & family members.
Support in Decision Making and Accessing Universal Services
| • | Support people in exploring options available to them, making better-informed decisions about their lifestyle and actively engaging with decisions that are being made about them |
| • | Support people into mainstream community services, employment opportunities, leisure and learning etc. |
Provide an Advisory Function on Autism for Health and Social Care Professionals
| • | Form a partnership with the Lambeth pilot adult assessment or diagnostic and treatment service for those people who may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). |
| • | Develop relationships with health, social care and third sector providers (e.g. housing, job centres, relationship advice counsellors, leisure providers etc) as may be required to support the successful delivery of this service, increase awareness of Autism, the service and what it might offer to them to support their DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) duties. |
