description
THIS IS NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION Western International Market Waste Collection and Disposal and Cleansing Services: Soft Market Testing Western International Market (WIM) was built in 2008 and operates as a wholesale fruit and vegetables market and covers an operational area of some 26 acres. It comprises two main buildings - The Produce Hall (c.82,000 sq. ft) and The Flower Hall (c.27,500 sq. ft). In addition, the site encompasses the areas for vehicle maintenance, a security control kiosk, a portacabin changing room/rest area for staff, an overspill car park, overnight lorry park and a staff and visitors car park used at weekends for a Sunday market. There is also an area currently used for waste segregation, storage and collection. WIM has some 80 market traders, who produce a combination of fruit and vegetable waste and packaging (i.e. plastic, cardboard and timber pallets). Quantities of waste generated are variable both on a monthly basis and from year to year, with an annual average of 4,700 tonnes generated in the last two years. Around 50% of the waste is estimated to be organic, both packaged and unpackaged. The London Borough of Hounslow (LBH) are considering procuring a contract for waste collection and disposal services to manage the wastes that arise from WIM. LBH are looking to build on recent changes to the waste management at the market to further segregate waste and reduce costs. The wastes include those generated by the market traders, commercial waste from offices and other waste generated through the maintenance and upkeep of the market e.g. road sweepings. Please complete the Soft Market Testing Questionnaire and submit by the deadline.
