description

The Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute (CRUK MI), originally named The Holt Radium Institute in 1932, has a long history of using radiation in research. On site there was two closed source cell irradiation system for dosing cells and solutions based around a Gulmay/Xstrahl irradiators which could achieve up to forty Gray in a controlled and monitored manner. The current system is used 1,400 hours a year across thirty-four research groups. Due to the fire at CRUK MI two replacement biological irradiation systems are required. There is a pressing time-critical requirement to bring back the ability of cell and in vivo irradiation to the research groups.
