Bristol and South Gloucestershire’s Paediatric GP with Special Interest (GPwSI) Service will be required to deliver care that is evidence based and clinically safe, effective and efficient, and consistent with national and local policy, clinical guidelines and NHS Standards.
Aims and objectives of service
To provide a GP with Special Interest (GPwSI) Service for children, encompassing assessment, treatment, onward referral and discharge.
To contribute to the GP management of children with long term conditions.
To ensure that children are treated in the most appropriate setting, through triage of referrals to general and specialist paediatric services.
To provide advice and feedback to GPs and primary care professionals to improve their working knowledge of paediatrics.
To provide clinically appropriate paediatric services closer to communities.
To improve the working relationship between primary and secondary care through improved access to evidence based practice, research and development .
Interdependence with other services / providers
In addition to the interdependencies in the overarching specification, the service will:
| • | Strive to become an integrated part of the primary health care teams focussed around GP Practices through regular face-to-face discussions with GPs and other members of the primary care health team |
| • | Actively engage in communication with Bristol Children’s Hospital and other acute and community health services |
The contract will be based on a 5 year period with the option to extend by a further 2 years. The annual contract value is £280,000 per annum.
