description
Main contractor for refurbishment of South Aveue Project (Amble).
South Avenue (Amble) is part of the Coquet feeder schools including James Calvert Spence College. During the build the pupils will move to the secondary school.
Works are currently at RIBA stage 3 and the appointed contractor will be appointed to assist with RIBA stage 4.
Investment in the Coquet Partnership has been considered for several years. Finally, in 2019, the decision was taken to allocate funds to the Council's MTFP with a view to investing in a project to address the school buildings of James Calvert Spence College (JCSC) Partnership. Just as work was about to begin the Covid pansemic began, and the Council's Executive team paused the project. Post pandemic, Council members committed to progressing with the project alongside informally consulting the Coquet community on re organising to a standard two-tier education model.
As part of this reorganisation JCSC is to be rebuilt and will no longer require the South Avenue buildings. This project seeks to remodel and refurbish the buildings to:-
- Enable the relocation of Amble First School to become Amble Primary School from 1st September 2024.
- Create a satelite provision of Barndale House School on the South Avenue site from 1st September 2024.
On acceptance of the final project costs by NCC the contractor will then be instructed to carry out the construction works.
The project has recently been identified as an urgent requirement and all works must be completed to allow the school to re open for September 2024.
