description
Future Cities Catapult has been working with a UK City to develop a tool that would assist planners and infrastructure providers with long-term strategic planning. At its core is the development of a new methodology that would allow users to see the impact of new development on key infrastructures, individually and collectively.
As Future Cities Catapult seeks to develop the tool from a working prototype to a market-ready software product, it requires a development and design team to build a number of core features. These are –
- Infrastructure Data Input (Backend and UI) – Infrastructure companies will need to supply data about the capacity of some of their assets. Over time the aim is for data to be provided via an API. However, in the short to medium term this data will be supplied manually by the infrastructure provider. The data supplied will be both commercially and security sensitive. It is assumed that this data is supplied on a periodical basis but no more frequently than quarterly.
- Development Sites Input (Backend and UI) – Planners from the Planning Authority will need to supply data about current and future development sites. The tool will also need the functionality to allow users to ‘drop in/drop out’ or ‘turn on/turn off’ specific development sites.
- Development Site View Comparison (Backend and UI) – Users will need to compare infrastructure rankings and other contextual data and information for two or more development sites.
- Scenario Share (Backend and UI) – Users will need to be able to build scenarios where different development sites are turned on/off and share these with other users of the tool.
- User profile area (Backend and UI) – Each user will have a profile area which will contain information about when datasets have been updated, scenarios they have built, scenarios they have shared and conversations with other users.
- Usability testing of selected priority features – Throughout the development process the usability of different features will need to be tested.
