Highway Maintenance Contract

MKC is considering options for the future provision of its Highway Maintenance service.

This work is currently carried out within an existing Highways Maintenance contract which started in 2014 and concludes in 2023/24 dependant on extensions.

The scope of the existing contract covers most operational aspects of Highways Maintenance including reactive and planned maintenance, traffic schemes, drainage, surfacing, emergency works, winter maintenance, signs, road markings.

The scope of the next contract is being considered by MKC.

The current contract has a maximum duration, with extensions of up to ten years, with an annual spend of circa £20-25m pa.

In advance of the formal procurement process commencing in 2022, the Council wishes to engage with experienced Contractors to share its plan and strategy for the new contract, and to hear views from the Highway Maintenance industry.

To obtain the views of the industry the Council will shortly be having an initial Market Engagement event by holding an on-line Teams Meeting.

This event will be lead by MKC, explaining its strategy and drivers for the future provision of Highway Maintenance.

Following the Teams event, interested parties will have the opportunity to comment and question the proposals by completing an on-line questionnaire.

MKC may also consider holding one to one meetings with Contractors for further informal discussions.
