Specification
- day per week of advocacy
The service will be exclusively for patients within The Beacon Centre at Edgware Community Hospital (1 day per week)
This service will enable patients residing in these wards/units to access formal advocacy as referenced in the National Service Framework for Mental Health, September 1999.
The Advocates should:
| • | ensure all patients have access to trained advocates to facilitate resolution of their concerns and assist their well-being. |
| • | provide all necessary formal advocacy and support clients with self-advocacy. |
| • | undertake casework on behalf of clients. |
| • | liaise with relevant professionals on behalf of clients. |
| • | will be experienced in providing advocacy services to clients with mental health needs. |
| • | The provider will ensure adequate cover arrangements are in place during planned leaves in excess of two weeks to maintain service levels |
The provider will accept both self-referrals and those made by healthcare professionals.
The provider will make provisional contact with all new patients on a monthly basis, acting on information provided by the Administration Team, to ensure all new clients are aware of the service provided.
The Advocates and patient will reach mutual agreement as to when to terminate the Advocacy service or if referral to other services may be appropriate.
The provider will be responsible for producing and distributing leaflets throughout NLFS, detailing how the Advocacy service can be accessed
Advocacy services will provide clients with support for:
- Disputes about social and health care
- Complaints
- Safeguarding issues
- Dignity in care in hospital
- The provision of information and representation of patient rights
- Self-advocacy
