Market Engagement for Out of Hours Urgent Dental Care

NHS England London Region is transforming NHS dental services across London to provide better patient access to dental services. A key aspect of that transformation is a review of the way patients currently access out of hours urgent dental care services during the time dental practices are closed.

NHS England London Region is now in a position to commission a dental nurse-led triage service, to provide an accessible and equitable pathway, primarily for London residents (and temporary residents) that require urgent dental care out of hours. The service will operate alongside the NHS 111 service in London and ensure callers for urgent dental care are assessed, triaged, given advice and appropriately signposted or booked into an appointment slot.

The proposed hours of service will operate between 18:00 and 08:00hrs weekday evenings and 24-hours during weekends and Bank Holidays (as defined by the General Practice out of hours period). The service will be delivered by trained and experienced Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) who will use established algorithms to clinically triage patients effectively. The service will have a phased implementation from 1 April 2016, to align with 111 Providers.

Prior to the formal procurement process, NHS England London Region is keen to meet and engage with prospective Providers and Stakeholders to inform the preparation of the service specification and model. An engagement event has been organised for Tuesday 5 May 2015 between 14:00-16:30hrs. The meeting will be held at MWB, 10 Greycoat Place, London SW1P 1SB.

It is proposed a formal procurement advert will be placed week commencing 8 June 2015, inviting for the completion of a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ). It is proposed Invitations To Tender (ITT) are issued week commencing 10 August 2015.
