description

A bird survey of 65 new farm woodlands established under the Farm Woodland Scheme (FWS) and the Farm Woodland Premium Scheme (FWPS) was carried out in 1999. These sites will now have matured to become patches of good scrub and young woodland habitat, and the 1999 survey provides an excellent baseline from which to investigate whether bird populations have changed through colonization of these new habitats. The project aims to re-survey these sites in 2019 to inform about the effects of woodland creation on birds over a 20-year period and how these effects relate to landscape characteristics, thus providing an evidence base to inform future woodland creation activities for increasing biodiversity and contributing to climate change mitigation.
