Leicester City Council (the Authority) invited Tenders for the provision of consultancy services to provide a full package of engineering design drawings for the roads within the THI area.
The objectives of the project are to respect and reinforce the historic character of the area by:
| • | The use of appropriate materials in terms of quality and price. |
| • | Providing training opportunities in traditional materials and conservation skills. |
| • | Retain/repairing surviving townscape elements. |
| • | Calming traffic through the use of specific materials rather than through a plethora of signs, as highlighted in Appendices 2 & 3. |
| • | Careful use of materials to complement the surrounding areas such as the Cathedral, its environs and Jubilee Square. |
It is envisaged that works during the lifetime of the THI project will bring the following benefits to Greyfriars Old Town:
| • | Enhance identity and civic pride. |
| • | Attract more visitors. |
| • | Increase income in the city centre. |
| • | Help independent businesses and retailers. |
| • | Create a safer city centre destination. |
