description
Berkhamsted lies on the western edge of Hertfordshire, bordering the Chiltern Hills. Over much of the last millennium it was an important market town with strong royal and literary connections; today it is a vibrant residential and cultural centre, and while it is now part of the Borough of Dacorum it has retained its own strong identity. Together with the adjoining village of Northchurch it is separated from other towns and villages by lovely countryside, all of it in the Metropolitan Green Belt and much of it classified as being an area of outstanding natural beauty.
As is the case with most town centres, there is a high demand for parking in Berkhamsted Town Centre. Back in 2013 a feasibility study was carried out by White Young Green which confirmed that it was feasible to construct a new multi storey car park on land at Lower Kings Road, Berkhamsted.
The Council have subsequently obtained planning permission for the works which was granted with a number of planning conditions.
The Council are now looking for a Contractor to design and construct a multi storey car park development comprising of 280 to 312 spaces with 15 adjoining ground bearing disabled spaces together with associated infrastructure works.
The site is located adjacent to an existing Waitrose supermarket at Lower Kings Road, Berkhamsted. The site for the multi storey structure is separated from the ground level disabled parking zone by an access road to the Waitrose Car Park which is to be kept in use at all times.
The Contractor will be responsible for both design and construction of the multi storey car park which will provide a combination of long and short stay parking bays in a vertical parking arrangement. Ancillary parking will be provided by resurfacing 15 existing disabled parking bays adjacent to the new structure. Infrastructure services are to be modified to suit the new structure and a new electrical mains supply provided to the site.
