These services will provide a high quality cost effective service to adults, children and young people, in their home, school, care homes and other appropriate environments as needed by the service user. The service will support the provision of equipment and wheelchairs to maximise the health and well-being of the service user’s temporary or permanent condition. The equipment and wheelchair provision will support the service user’s quality of life through increased independence.
The successful provider will work in an integrated way with community services to assure effective assessment and provision of equipment and wheelchairs to service users. The successful provider will be required to deliver an outcome based service to include:
| • | Provision of clinical specialist assessment and provision of wheelchairs for children and adults |
| • | Efficient supply of equipment to service users (children and adults) |
| • | Repair and maintenance of wheelchairs and equipment, including reconditioning and modification, where appropriate |
| • | Robust business management systems and processes including stock control, waiting list management. |
| • | Logistics - storage, supply, and deliveries (supply and collection) |
| • | Patient centred service - consistently delivering high levels of patient satisfaction. |
Aims of the service
Innovation and use of technology within service delivery is actively encouraged to ensure client-centred solutions for the provision of this service are put in place with the following aims:
| • | Right access - the service delivery model needs to be mobile and flexible to meet the varying service user needs |
| • | Right clinical assessment - specialist assessment for wheelchairs for children and adults with a long term or short term condition/illness |
| • | Right prescription (wheelchairs) - ensuring that the social value is maximised for the service user |
| • | Right provision of wheelchairs and equipment - facilitating service user choice within defined eligibility criteria |
| • | Right timing - timely access to assessment, supply, maintenance and repair of wheelchairs and equipment keeping waiting times to a minimum. |
NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Kingston upon Hull City Council would like to request Providers share their views and experience of Integrated Community Equipment and Wheelchair Services.
It is NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group and Kingston upon Hull City Council’s intention that formal procurement activities will commence in May 2015.
All Providers are invited to participate including providers currently in the Community Equipment and Wheelchair Services market or considering a move into the market within the Hull geographic area.
The views of providers will be highly valued and will be used to inform the service specification and procurement processes.
