description
The Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) has a business-critical reliance on a secure online workspace solution to support core investigation activity.
HSIB conducts independent high-quality safety investigations across the NHS in England. It investigates up to 30 National, and over 1,000 Maternity patient safety incidents each year. HSIB employs highly skilled and specially trained investigators drawn from diverse backgrounds across the NHS, aviation, engineering and other sectors.
Whilst the investigator can draw upon the collective knowledge of their colleagues there remain times when expert independent advice, knowledge and analysis must be sought to ensure that the investigation is of the highest possible quality.
As subject matter advisors (SMA) are necessarily independent to HSIB there arises a fundamental question around giving them access to information, records and the systems of HSIB. As HSIB deal with highly sensitive confidential records and information (including patient records) we employ the highest level of care with regards to how such records are handled. To ensure good Information Governance and compliance with legislation, the manner in which HSIB shares information given to it must be of a secure and traceable method.
Outside of the investigation process, a solution is required to ensure all users have a simple method of electronic communication that they can be assured is secure and the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data is retained. This is also pivotal to work conducted by other HSIB departments that rely on the solution, for example IG SAR and working with external parties for audits/external reviews.
