CP1079-14 Emotional Wellbeing for Children and Young People

There is overwhelming evidence that children and young people with higher levels of emotional, psychological and social wellbeing do better in school.

Neglecting emotional, psychological or social wellbeing can result in children and young people, in particular children in care and children from families on lower incomes, disengaging from school and experiencing life-long challenges such as low educational attainment, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, substance misuse, violence and crime.

In addition, early signs of emotional, psychological or social difficulties in children and young people can be a sign of a child at risk from exposure to abuse, violence or substance misuse at home.

Identifying issues early is essential.

Please note that Devon County Councils Public Health Team will be running the above event on 12th January 2015 from 1.30-3.00pm at Westbank Healthy Living Centre, Exminster. This is a further opportunity to contribute towards the design of early intervention services to support children and young peoples emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. When completed, the design phase will have involved young people and their families, schools and other professional across the multi agency network and this is your opportunity to help inform the future shape of these services.
