description

Health Education England (HEE) wishes to support the development of educational supervisors as set out in the Policy context below. As part of that the HEE London and the South East region is seeking to procure training to support pharmacy staff to become effective and competent educational supervisors. The training should provide learners with generic core training, which would be applicable to any educational supervisor role.

However the primary focus should be supporting pre-registration pharmacist tutors and therefore it should include some content that contextualises the educational supervision of a pre-registration pharmacist. There should be the option to provide bolt on programme specific information for educational supervisors supporting foundation pharmacists or pre-registration pharmacy technicians.

HEE wishes to procure the training in the format of licences for online learning. An online or virtual platform is our preferred model of delivery given the challenges in releasing staff to attend training particularly in community pharmacy and the large geographical area. Access to training licences will be prioritised for those that will be acting as pre-registration pharmacist educational supervisors/ tutors for placements advertised through the national pre-registration pharmacist recruitment scheme.

The precise number of pre-registration tutors to be trained has not yet been confirmed and for this reason HEE is seeking flexibility in the timelines for training.

The training should:

meet GPhC Pre-registration Tutor competencies
meet GPhC Guidance on tutoring for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
be mindful of the educational supervisor requirements of other health care professions
take into account the challenges faced by employers, particularly in community pharmacy in releasing staff during core working hours
take into account the geography of the area
